Touch and be touched

Touching and being touched is one of the most elementary experiences of contact and, alongside eating, breathing and sleeping, is a basic need for all human beings. The skin, our largest sensory organ, absorbs every touch, every vibration, no matter how small, and transmits it to the heart and brain. It is the first sensory experience we have when we are born and the only sense that does not diminish with age.

For babies, loving touch is even vital. From a very early age, they nestle into hands that hold them when they find the touch pleasant and feel accepted. This nurtures the all-important basic trust.

But touch is also essential for adults. It reminds us of our origins, strengthens the immune system and brings us into contact with ourselves.
Attentive touch from the outside can help us to become more aware of ourselves again. This releases the hormones oxytocin and serotonin, which enable us to relax deeply, regenerate and form bonds.

Your breath as an anchor

Even as an embryo in its mother’s protected womb, the baby is moved and rocked every time the mother breathes in and out. It is warm, quiet and safe in here.

The touches of the Lomi massage remind us exactly of this pleasant rocking – the extensive skin contact, the oceanic movements and the special under-grips create a feeling of deep security.

The essence of Lomi Lomi Nui is also expressed through the breath:
The person giving the massage makes contact with the person receiving the massage through their breath. This creates a resonance that absorbs the physical and emotional vibrations with the aim of deepening breathing and releasing tension. The active lung volume can increase and the autonomic nervous system can relax. Emotional stability sets in, while at the same time the space of one’s own consciousness expands towards awareness:

That is me.

Out of the silence,
eyes still closed,
a loving touch, a warm hand
– wanting nothing, expecting nothing –
Giving support, nourishing, unconditional.

AS WE BREATHE, SO WE LIVE

The combination of breath and touch is a way to get in touch with yourself – comparable to a physical unfolding. Like a bridge between thinking and feeling, it creates a connection to your own source of creative power and joie de vivre. The wonderful thing about this is that the path to our own divine core becomes tangible again. At the same time, we can connect with an energy that is greater than ourselves. Access to our own potential, creativity, intuition and self-confidence can become free again.

As trained certified respiratory therapists, we are familiar with the power of the connected breath. It is therefore an essential component not only in our treatments, but also in all Lomi training seminars.

PROCESS-ORIENTED HAWAIIAN BODYWORK IN TRAINING

How can you as a massager accompany your clients? What role does the breath play in this?

First and foremost, you will learn to meet yourself and use your breath as a centering anchor. This will help you enormously later on to prepare for massages, guide your clients safely through their emotional processes and then integrate what you have experienced with them. It goes without saying that you will learn a powerful method that you can also use in your everyday life.

During the training, you will gradually develop confidence in dealing with challenging issues that your clients may bring with them. Conscious breathing is a constant point of reference. Practicing in the group creates an important basis for later being able to work confidently and sensitively with your own clients.
